Become a Learner:
Would you or someone you know like to improve their English language skills?
The library system offers an ESL (English as a Second Language) program that can help.
Learners are paired one-on-one with trained tutors who help learners reach their goals. Our learners' goals can be personal or professional, such as gaining language skills related to their job or the ability to communicate with their children’s teachers.
English language skills are essential to everyday life, and the library system wants to help learners succeed and better themselves.
For more information, please call (727) 893-7929 or email ESL.library@stpete.org

Become a Tutor:
Make a difference in the life of a new English language speaker and share in our community’s cultural diversity by helping an adult improve his or her English language skills.
Tutors need not be fluent in another language or have had previous teaching experience. However, tutors do need to be able to speak, read and write the English language effectively as all instruction will be conducted in English.
The library will provide the necessary training to equip you with the tools, techniques and ongoing support to work one on one with an adult wishing to learn and improve their English language skills.
Requirements:
- Age 18 or above
- Able to volunteer two hours per week meeting with your paired learner
- Ability to commit for a minimum of six months, preferably longer
- Able to attend a six hour tutor training program (conducted in 3 sessions)
- Patience, caring, reliability and the desire to help another succeed
For more information, please call (727) 893-7929 or email ESL.library@stpete.org |
